Honey Apple Dumplings

I love this recipe - it's so delicious! You can use whole wheat flour in place of the regular flour. Yum!

Honey Apple Dumplings:
2 cups flour
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup shortening
1/3 cup milk
6 cored apples, chopped
1 tbsp butter
6 tbsp honey
1 tbsp lemon juice
1/8 tsp salt

Put flour, baking powder, and 1/2 tsp salt in a bowl. Cut in shortening. Add milk, mixing to soft dough. Roll dough into rectangle 12x18 inches. Cut into 6 inch squares. Place apples on each square. Fill center with combined butter, honey, lemon juice and 1/8 tsp salt. Moisten edges of dough with cold water and bring to top of apples - or fold over, just make sure the dough surrounds the apples. Press edges firmly together. Place in buttered 13x9 casserole dish. Pour on honey sauce. Bake at 400 degrees for 30-35 minutes. Serve with or without cream. (I say YES to whipped cream!)

Honey Sauce:
3/4 cup honey
1 1/2 cup water
4 tbsp butter
1/4 tsp salt

Boil honey, water, butter, and salt together for 5 minutes. Print Friendly and PDF Pin It
